STREIF have built a new extension to Hankham Primary School for East Sussex County Council. This was one of four school extensions carried out in 2014 in partnership with the main contractor Baxall Construction Ltd. The large extension which was designed by Pick Everard and included new classrooms and a hall, needed to be constructed quickly in order to minimize disruption during term time and had to match the aesthetics of the existing school building. STREIF was chosen as this was easily achievable using the STREIF off-site construction system with the extension being fully erected in seven days.
The building was designed to blend with the existing school building, using similar finishing materials including timber cladding and brickwork. The new extension included a large double height hall with mono-pitch roof and a number of auxiliary classrooms and offices. Due to the spans involved across the double-height hall large glulam beams were required to support the roof, with steel fixing posts built into the wall panels below to support the glulam beams.
Even the most technical design requirements are easily worked round using the STREIF closed panel system without compromising on the architects design or building aesthetics. As you can see from the images below.
