Built in 2012 for the YMCA and designed by architects TOR Ltd and Stride Treglown, the Move On Units were STREIF's first joint venture with main contractor J & S Seddon Ltd.
Designed to achieve Code Level 4 and to be an exemplar of sustainable development, the thirty self-contained units provide comfortable and independent living for the YMCA’s residents. The L shaped building features super insulated walls, the best in German windows, Alsecco coloured renders, screeded upper floors, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and a communal heating system. Three STREIF crews working together in rotation put up the 2,238 m² off-site manufactured building in under four weeks, with a specialist team brought in to do the rendering in just four days.
The Move On Units, together with the stylish new sports centre next door, represent a major expansion and upgrade of the YMCA facilities in Stoke and were formally opened by Princess Anne on April 27th 2012.
