Built in 2010/11 for Seaford College and designed by HNW Architects, the halls of residence were the fourth joint venture between STREIF and main contractor W Stirland Ltd.
Situated in the walled garden of a Grade II* Listed building, the halls had to be sympathetic to their neighbour in both quality and design. Additional requirements were for the buildings to be very energy efficient and very robust, and in order to minimize disruption during term time, the construction period needed to be very short. STREIF was chosen because it could hit all these targets with its off site construction system.
Each of the large buildings containing 27 bedrooms, ablutions and common rooms was put up to roof plate in five days. The offsite manufactured zinc dormers were neatly inserted on the sixth day, and the trussed roof took shape as the erection crew and crane moved on to the next block. All three buildings, totalling 2,170 m², were handed over to the main contractor now felt and battened in just three weeks.
