Built in 2015 for East Sussex County Council and designed by Miller Bourne Architects, Robsack Wood Primary Academy was another project built in partnership with main contractor Baxall Construction Ltd.
The 700m² single storey building houses a mixture of classrooms, offices and a new nursery, with a monopitch roof to the main building and then flat roof sections to the smaller office areas. The monopitch sections are open to the roof internally ensuring the classrooms have a very spacious feel with exposed glulam beams between the acoustic ceiling.
The linear design of the building really helped the external finishes shine in particular the long front elevation of the building which was clad in horizontal Siberian Larch boarding which created a clean line running almost the length of the building and this was offset against the render finish creating a nice contrast.
STREIF erected the off-site manufactured closed panel timber frame structure over a period of three weeks allowing the main contractor to organise all the second fix and follow on trades much earlier than would have been possible if the building had been built using traditional construction methods.
