Built in 2011 for JKC Management and designed by architect Chris Day, Dorothy Court is now a landmark on the South Coast Rd in Peacehaven, East Sussex. With Sainsburys Local supermarket on the ground floor and fourteen stylish apartments above, the 2,175 m² building was fully tenanted upon completion.
The architecture displays a contemporary mix of red brickwork, white render and grey fascia panels, with an aluminium roof and brise soleil detailing. The off site manufactured building is super insulated, with triple glazed windows, and benefits from the latest community heating and rainwater harvesting systems.
STREIF put the building up under some of the most difficult weather conditions it has come across in the UK, with deep snowfall, high winds and coastal storms during the build phase, but the project stayed on track and Sainsburys was able to occupy the ground floor ahead of schedule.
