Hurstpierpoint College's new Boarding House is a collaboration between Streif and Main Contractor W Stirland, rekindling a historic connection that Streif had with W Stirland having worked together on successful Education projects past.
Designed by Miller Bourne Architects, this £6 million project encompassing a three-storey boarding house with an internal floor area of 2496m2 , provides 76 beds across single rooms and shared dormitories, together with ancillary facilities and three staff flats. As shown in the impressive drone shots of the build, the new Boarding House is U-shaped in design formed around a central south-facing courtyard.
Streif were chosen to supply our closed panel timber frame system for this project as the college required a company that could deliver a high quality, sustainable, and low energy solution in as short a construction period as possible to minimise disruption to the School and it’s pupils. Even with the bad winter weather experienced, we managed to excel and deliver the project on time for the main contractor.
With its traditional design to help blend in with the existing buildings in the area, this project really highlights the flexibility of the Streif system, as the resulting building is anything but traditional with a low carbon, low energy, and sustainable timber core, enhanced by triple glazing and finished externally with sections of contemporary zinc roofing. This build can now be added to the list of successful projects by Streif following excellent feedback from the College and pupils alike.
